Arbitres de handball équipés de VOKKERO Elite

VOGO provides the video refereeing solution to the EHF for both the Men’s and Women’s Champions League, as well as for the EURO 2024 and 2026 tournaments.

VOGO strengthens its Technology-as-a-Service (TaaS) offering with the signing of a four-year contract for the Handball EUROs.

The client

The European Handball Federation (EHF) is the governing body of all European handball organizations, bringing together 50 national federations and 2 associated federations. Founded in 1991 in Berlin, it is headquartered in Vienna, Austria. The EHF is notably the organizer of the Men’s and Women’s Champions League and the EURO tournaments.

The brief

The deployed solution

The VOGO ELITE BUNDLE combines the VOKKERO ELITE audio communication system with the VOGOSPORT ELITE video replay solution.

For the Champions League, VOGO has equipped, since September 2023, all 32 selected clubs across Europe from Denmark to North Macedonia, including Poland and Spain. Arenas are primarily fitted with a permanently installed solution, except for clubs that relocate some of their matches, for which a mobile kit is provided. Referees use the VOKKERO ELITE audio system, enabling them to communicate with complete confidence thanks to its noise filter. At courtside, a VOGOSPORT tablet allows them to review actions from all TV camera angles and confirm their refereeing decisions.

For the EURO 2024, VOGO and the EHF deployed a more advanced solution, replacing the courtside tablet with three touchscreens:

  • The first is operated by a VOGO “Replay Operator.”
  • The second is dedicated to the video referee.
  • The third mirrors the footage for the on-court referees to support their decision-making.

VOGO also provided a goal-line solution, installing dedicated cameras inside the goals to capture the ball crossing the line.

The EHF requested the implementation of goal cameras replicating the “Goal Line Technology” model used in football, combined with the installation of mini-cameras monitoring the teams’ substitution areas.

The result

A tailor-made solution

The VOGO ELITE BUNDLE was implemented based on a specific set of requirements defined by the EHF, which opted for a comprehensive system combining both audio and video.

Easy to use

VOGO, in close collaboration with the EHF, trained the referees on how to use the VOGOSPORT ELITE tablet.

A single provider

By combining its audio and video solutions, VOGO acts as a single provider for the EHF, offering technical support for the entire VOGO ELITE BUNDLE solution.

“The European Handball Federation is delighted to begin a long-term partnership with VOGO for the premier stage of European handball: the Men’s and Women’s EHF EUROs. This collaboration covers the next four EHF EURO tournaments, and we are confident that, with VOGO, we will further develop the competition and take the video refereeing system to the next level.”

Martin Hausleitner, Secretary General of the EHF
